An International Counsel Attorney - Part or Full Time

Simply put, as an alternative to working with us on an hourly rate or project basis, we offer one of our senior international attorneys on a weekly basis, whether part or full-time, onsite at your offices or telecommuting with periodic onsite visits

Our “seconded” attorney is available to you at rates 1/3 less than our already attractive fees. In return, we ask only for a modest and flexible ongoing use commitment

Our program is designed for companies with ongoing needs over several projects or single special projects likely to last for more than 30 days – whenever hiring another member of the legal team is not cost effective or absolutely necessary

By the way, our team members’ cross-border experience is grounded on their U.S. law expertise – assignments can also encompass U.S. corporate and commercial work

“Secondment” – Is that a Word?

The term is more commonly used internationally. One definition: “the detachment of a person from their regular organization for temporary assignment elsewhere”

What Led Us to Offer the Program?

Our client experiences with companies such as Motorola and Corbis Corporation (the leading worldwide digital images provider) have showed us how such a relationship can work and add real value

In establishing International Counsel, we set-out to deliver the advantages of an in-house international legal counsel role to emerging and mid-market companies that lacked the resources of major companies

We also have found that some major enterprises have welcomed our approach and would like more – beyond help with a project or occasional advice, some companies prefer access to a dedicated International Counsel attorney on an ongoing basis

A Seasoned Cross-Border Attorney Backed by the Full Support of the International Counsel Team

Our lawyers have the support of the International Counsel team, which is available for ongoing consultations with the team member for issues of deal structuring, foreign law resources and general experience of the team

International law, more than many areas of domestic legal practice, requires a good deal of judgment based on long experience. Brainstorming with other experienced team members can leverage from our collective experience and judgment

We have formalized our team feedback process into a system of required regular conferences between one of our other senior lawyers and the seconded attorney. Click here for more on our team feedback process.

Unlike lone lawyers raising independent contractor issues or temporary lawyers who are brokered by a temp agency, our “seconded” lawyers are part of a firm backed by our decade of existence
